A resin-bound driveway is natural aggregate mixed with clear resin and trowelled over a permeable base to form a seamless, porous surface.
Cost
£100 – £160 per m²
Lifespan
15 – 25 years
Permeable
Yes, when laid over a permeable base
Best for
Seamless finish, drainage compliance, modern frontages
Resin-bound is not resin-bonded. Bonded scatters loose stone onto adhesive and is not permeable. Bound mixes the aggregate through the resin, which is the specification you want on a driveway.
Laying needs dry conditions and a base temperature above the manufacturer's minimum, so we plan resin installations around the forecast.
Yes. A UV-stable resin over a permeable base handles Scottish rainfall and freeze-thaw well, because water drains through rather than sitting on the surface.
Resin can be laid over sound tarmac or concrete, but that base is not permeable, so drainage must be handled separately.
