Herringbone at 45 or 90 degrees gives the strongest interlock and is the standard pattern for a driveway. Stretcher bond is used for paths and borders where loading is lighter.
The sub-base carries the load. We excavate to formation, lay and compact Type 1 in layers, then set the laying course before blocks are cut in and vibrated down.
A correctly built block paving driveway lasts 25 years or more, and individual damaged blocks can be replaced at any point.
Permeable block paving uses wider joints filled with open-graded grit over a permeable sub-base, allowing water to drain through the surface.
